Road to Ruin is the fourth album by the Ramones, significantly departing from the band's usual sound.

The first three albums allowed the Ramones to lay the foundations of punk rock and become important figures in the movement.

However, the New Yorkers were overshadowed by English bands such as The Clash and the Sex Pistols, and their notoriety remains very limited. This lack of commercial success is starting to become a problem for them. Road to Ruin is the first album with Marky Ramone. Tommy Ramone steps down from drumming, tired of the endless tours and the strained relationships among the band members. However, he still remains in the 'family', as he will produce this album.
