THE PRETENDERS - Learning to Crawl (LP)

Learning to Crawl is the third studio album by the Pretenders released in January 1984.
When this album was released, two and a half years after Pretenders II, there had been changes within the lineup. After the dismissal of bassist Pete Farndon and the death of guitarist James Honeyman-Scott just two days apart in 1982, the band was in reconstruction.
Chrissie Hynde and Martin Chambers initially recruited Billy Bremner, former guitarist of Rockpile, and Tony Butler, the bassist of Big Country. Together, they recorded the tracks Back on the Chain Gang and My City Was Gone which were released as a single in October 1982. These two songs were later included on the album.
In 1983, as the band entered the studio, Andrew Bodnar, a musician accompanying Graham Parker, replaced Tony Butler while Paul Carrack took over on piano to record the song Thin Line Between Love and Hate, a cover of the Persuaders.
Eventually, Robbie McIntosh (guitar) and Malcolm Foster (bass) officially joined the Pretenders, and it was the quartet of Hynde-Chambers-McIntosh-Foster that completed the album.
